More than any other Ferrari in a third of a century, the Ferrai F40 embodied racing-car technology with a bare minimum of driver comforts. The name reflected Ferrari’s 40 years in racing – 1947/48 to 1987/88 – and fits no other Ferrari numbering system. It was a classic combination of massive power – 470+ bhp from the base model – and low weight , only 1100kg or 2420 lb.
